Our Story

Ever since I was a little girl growing up in Cuba, books have been part of my life.

Some of my earliest memories are of reading El Principito and Los Zapaticos de Rosa. I was very young, but those books marked the beginning of a lifelong curiosity.

Whenever my aunt took me to La Feria Internacional del Libro de La Habana, I remember walking through rows of books, wondering which ones I would take home. Those visits made me curious to keep reading and discovering new stories.

When I moved to the United States, that curiosity came with me.

Libraries became my refuge. They were the places where I could slow down, think, learn, and simply be. Over the years, I realized that books were more than stories. They became companions through change, comfort during difficult seasons, and reminders that every chapter eventually leads to another.

As life unfolded, one dream remained constant.

To open a bookstore.

Not simply to sell books, but to create the kind of place I had always been searching for.

A place where curiosity is welcomed.

Where stories are respected.

Where every book is chosen with care.

Where readers can discover something that stays with them long after the final page.

The Word & Wonder is a reflection of the way I see the world.

I believe books have a quiet way of finding us when we need them most. Sometimes they offer comfort. Sometimes they challenge us. Sometimes they simply remind us that we are not alone.

Whether you are beginning again, finding your way in a new place, healing after loss, raising a family, traveling through life, or simply searching for your next great read, I hope The Word & Wonder becomes a place you return to.

Every book you find here has been chosen with intention. From forgotten classics and literary fiction to hidden gems and stories in English and Spanish, each title has earned its place in this collection.

Welcome to The Word & Wonder.
